Documenting Britain
Between city and countryside is a Non Place, a space where multi-layered traces of meaning can exist at anyone time. This topographical terrain engenders new navigational techniques to explore and record it. Landscape plays a pivotal role in my artwork. I am drawn to the spaces in-between spaces, liminality, the periphery, the edge and what lies unseen outside the edge, this Non Place.
Parallax | Shift
Parallax | Shift is an exploration into the multiplicity of views that occur at the edge of places, in which the trace of place is transposed by movement in the act of entering the edge of the city.
This body of fine art research forms the basis that will develop into a series of monochrome paintings depicting the essence of seeing into the in-between of places.
This work in progress begins to explore the transition beyond and into the periphery, blurring form and movement through the act of entering the zone known as the edge.
Part of the research project is an ongoing film which explores edges around urban centres and is theoretically set out of time in various hinterlands. These edges encompass topographical zones in transition and link to Landscape Futures Institute. The film project is a useful tool to collate and draw reference imagery from while trying to visualise and explore the parallax.
