Documenting Britain

Reflective Processes

For Documenting Britain, I am experimenting with a variety of alternative processes to create a series of images that evoke the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. To get to know something, we observe, edge closer, our senses on full alert. We drink in landscape through sensation: looking, listening, smelling the air, feeling the wind on our skin.

Reflective Processes

To get to know something, we observe, edge closer, our senses on full alert. We drink in landscape through sensation: looking, listening, smelling the air, feeling the wind on our skin. I like to portray these landscapes, both inner and outer, using darkroom processes. All senses are involved, as layers build up and wash away; the subdued lighting, running water, the smell of chemicals, textures of paper, the subtle colour shifts. This offers me a way to reflect, to look at what surrounds me, to understand what I see.
