Documenting Britain

Reflective Processes

For Documenting Britain, I am experimenting with a variety of alternative processes to create a series of images that evoke the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. To get to know something, we observe, edge closer, our senses on full alert. We drink in landscape through sensation: looking, listening, smelling the air, feeling the wind on our skin.

Mordançage Unst

Another island and another process. Experimenting at the moment with Mordançage, lots of bleaching and redevelopment involved, leaving room for all sorts of happy accidents and interesting textures.

These photographs are from my trip to Shetland in August last year, the first time I’ve made it to Unst – what an amazing place. The first image is of the old MoD buildings in Unst, the other two were taken at the lighthouse at Sumburgh Head, at the southernmost end of the archipelago.
